Oak Hill Acres agrees to provide approximately 22 weeks (middle of May to middle of October) farm-fresh, certified (by the Iowa Dept. of Agriculture), organic vegetables to each of our share holders of our CSA. A CSA agreement is a mutual commitment between our farm and the community supporters of our farm who actually purchase a share of the season's harvest. The bounty of this harvest is dependent not only on our skill, as steward's of the earth, but also on the whim of mother nature. We plant an abundant amount of vegetable crops, but cannot promise the exact timing of kinds, varieties, or amounts in each week's share due to Mother Nature. We make it our goal to give you a wide variety of organic vegetables as they come into season. The early week's share will not have as much in them, but as the season goes along, they will get fuller. We have two (2) options this year to help accomodate share holders better.
IN SEASON CROPS THAT COME IN SHARE COOLERS: Hard red winter wheat; rye; basil; chives; herb plants; head and loose lettuce; spinach; radishes; rhubarb; turnips and greens; kale; spring garlic; boy choy; kohlrabi; sugar snap, shelling, and snow peas; broccoli; green and red cabbage; cauliflower; white, red, and yellow potatoes; collard greens; summer squash; winter squash; green, purple, and wax beans; heirloom tomatoes; okra; sweet and hot peppers; muesclan mix; argula; totsoi; plus much more.
OPTION 1 (LIKE IN PAST YEARS):
You receive a weekly share cooler of vegetables and herbs. Coolers are dropped off at a designated site, day, and time each week. Drop sites at the present time are in Davenport, Rock Island, Moline, Muscatine, West Liberty, Iowa City, and Coralville. All CSA members receive the same amount and kind of products the same week. You receive between four (4) to seven (7) different vegetables and herbs in each week's share. There will be an area on our website each week to see what is in your weekly cooler; also along with that are some helpful cooking tips. There may be a few new and unusual vegetables in your weekly share cooler that you may not like or know what they are. We cannot provide substitutes. You will have an option of a full share or a half share. A full share is for people that love fresh vegetables and herbs, and usually feeds two adults and two teens three (3) or four (4) meals a week. A half share feeds a couple and a small child two (3) or three (3) meals a week. A full share will have double what a half share has in it. Your share will be delivered in an insulated cooler on a weekly basis. We would very much appreciate it if you would return your cooler cleaned and wiped out. Thanks!
FEES: A full share is $460 for the season. $260 is due with the signing of this contract. The second installment of $200 is due by July 1st.
A half share is $252 for the season. $152 is due at the signing of this contract. The second installment of $100 is due by July 1st.
If the second installment is not paid by July 1st, we will suspend delivery until it is received. By signing this contract, you are acknowledging that you have contracted us to grow your vegetables for you. Because the majority of our expenses are up front, we cannot offer a refund. You can pay the whole amount up front if you choose. If you are unable to pick up your share cooler some week(s) because of vacation or other circumstance, we are unable to double your next week's cooler. Please find a friend or family member to pick up and use your cooler for you.
OPTION 2 (NEW OPTION):
We are offering a punch card! You will still be contracting us to grow your vegetables, but this way you can choose what vegetables you want and when you want them. We have two stands at two Farmer's Markets: the Iowa City market (at the corner of Gilbert and Washington Streets in Iowa City) and the Freight House Farmer's Market (at Modern Wooden Ballpark in Davenport). What you would do is show up and choose whatever products that you want, in whatever amount that you choose to spend at that time. We would then punch your card for the amount of purchase. It will be your responsibility to bring your punch card with you each week. With this option, you do not have to show up every week and if you are going on vacation, you won't have to worry about finding someone to pick up your cooler. Also, with this option, you will be able to purchase bedding plants and cut flowers. It will be your responsibility to use up your punch card by the end of the season on October 31st, 2009. We will be posting what vegetables are available on our website each week. To get best variety and selection, it is better to show up at the earlier hours of each market.
FEES:
Punch Card worth $250: You receive $250 worth of product for $225
Punch Card worth $450: You receive $450 worth of product for $400
You can decide which sized card would be best for your family. Your full payment will be due at the signing of the contract. This option will be on a trial period for this year; therefore we have limited spaces available. Because the majority of our expenses are up front, we cannot offer a refund. We are offering the reduced punch cards because there will not be as much time involved in packaging the vegetables and packing the share coolers.
