CHECK OUT TERMS FOR WHAT IS NEW IN 2012!!! Punch Cards! With this option you can choose what veggies you want that are available at that time. We have stands at three Farmer's Markets: the Iowa City Market (at the corner of Gilbert and Washington Streets), the Freight House Farmer's Market (at Modern Wooden Ballpark in Davenport), and the Cedar Rapids Farmer's Market (Downtown and 8th Ave). What you would do is show up and choose whatever products that you want, in whatever amount that you choose to spend at that time. We would then punch your card for the amount of your purchase. It will be your responsibility to bring your punch card with you each time you come. With this option, you do not have to show up every week and if you are on vacation, you won't have to worry about finding someone to pick up your cooler. Also, with this option, you will be able to purchase bedding plants and cut flowers. It will be your responsibility to use up your punch card by the end of the season, which is October 31st of this year. We will try to notify you of what is available that week. To get best variety and selection, it is better to show up at the earlier hours of each market. Please do not wait until the end of the season to use up your punch cards. What Comes in the Coolers? When in season (and depending on Mother Nature), you can expect to see in your share coolers for the 2012 season the following certified organic vegetables, herbs and grains: Hard red spring wheat and rye; basil, chives and herb plants; head and loose leaf lettuce; spinach; radishes; rhubarb; turnip and greens; kale; mustard green; bok choy; kohlrabi; sugar snap, shelling, and snow peas; broccoli; green and red cabbage; cauliflower; white, red and yukon gold potatoes; collard greens; summer squash to include green and yellow zucchini, patty pans, straight, crook neck and mideastern; cucumbers; wax, green, and purple green beans; heirloom tomatoes to include red, pink and yellow slicing; cherry and romas; okra; sweet and hot peppers; muesclan mix; arrugula; totsoi; eggplant; onions; Chinese cabbage - plus much more!!! Some of the vegetables you see in the early coolers, you may see then again in the fall. For fairness to all CSA members, each cooler the same week is packed with the same items for all CSA members. Where can you pick up your weekly CSA cooler? We have several drop off sites and days. The plan is to have drop off sites in West Liberty, Muscatine, Brady Street Storage in Davenport, and thge Moline storage unit on Tuesday afternoons; Iowa City and Coralville New Pioneer Coop Wednesday evenings; Saturday mornings at the Freight House Farmer's Market, Davenport, in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. See "locations" in this website for more information. Your cooler can also be picked up at the farm on Tuesday or Friday. We can also add other drop off sites and towns if we get at least 7 CSA members at that site. How do the coolers work? We pack each CSA share in an insulated cooler with either ice or a frozen water bottle. You are to have your cooler back to the drop off site before the next drop off - that way we only have to make one trip per week to the drop off sites. Every week we post information of what is in the cooler on the website under the link "coolers." We also have a variety of recipes under the links "recipes" and "herbs." |
